Whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT scan in a patient with Lung Cancer taken from the PETWB-REP dataset. The following English report (translated from original Chinese) is taken verbatim from the public dataset and has not been modified or otherwise checked for accuracy (see the end for citation).

Findings

After fasting and intravenous injection of 18F-FDG, a whole-body PET/CT scan was performed.
The whole-body scan showed: The brain morphology and structure were normal.
No obvious space-occupying lesion was seen in the left cerebellopontine angle.
There were punctate, slightly low-density shadows in the deep brain, and FDG metabolism was normal.
No widening was seen in the ventricles, sulci, fissures, or cisterns.
The ventricles were symmetrical, and there was no midline shift.
Both eyes were symmetrical, with no obvious abnormalities.
No thickening was seen in the paranasal sinus mucosa, and the sinus walls were intact.
No thickening was seen in the nasopharyngeal wall, and FDG uptake was normal.
The pharyngeal recesses were symmetrical, the Eustachian tube openings were not narrowed, the infratemporal and pterygopalatine fossae were structurally normal, and the bilateral parapharyngeal spaces were clear, with no abnormal FDG uptake.
No abnormal density shadows were seen in the bilateral parotid and submandibular glands.
The oropharynx and laryngopharynx were normal in morphology and structure.
The thyroid gland is normal in shape and size, with slightly uneven density; FDG uptake is normal.
No enlarged lymph nodes were seen in the bilateral deep cervical spaces or submandibular region.
The lung markings are clear.
A mixed ground-glass nodule in the posterior segment of the right upper lobe has clear borders and lobulated edges, measuring approximately 2.3*1.9*2.6cm, with slightly increased FDG uptake (SUVmax=0.9).
A bronchus is seen penetrating within the nodule, with localized stenosis.
A solid nodule in the basal segment of the right lower lobe has clear borders and a diameter of approximately 0.3cm; FDG uptake is normal.
A few linear lesions are present in both lungs, with normal FDG uptake.
No pleural thickening was observed bilaterally, and there was no pleural effusion or pneumothorax bilaterally.
A cystic opacity containing air was seen at the right posterior border of the upper trachea.
No significantly enlarged lymph nodes were seen in the bilateral hilar and mediastinal regions.
The cardiac silhouette is normal.
Partial arteriosclerosis is present.
No abnormal density shadows were seen in either breast, and FDG metabolism was normal.
No esophageal dilation was seen, and no significant thickening or mass was observed in the esophageal wall; FDG uptake was not increased.
The liver's shape and size were normal, the liver margins were smooth, the hepatic fissure was not widened, and no significant abnormal density shadows were seen in the liver parenchyma on plain CT scan; FDG uptake was normal.
The main portal vein was not significantly widened, and no dilation was seen in the intrahepatic or extrahepatic bile ducts.
The gallbladder's shape and size were normal, the gallbladder wall was not thickened, and local FDG uptake was normal.
The pancreas was normal in shape, with no significant abnormal density shadows seen in the parenchyma; the main pancreatic duct was not widened, and FDG uptake was normal.
The spleen's shape, size, density, and FDG uptake were normal.
Both kidneys are normal in shape and size, with no obvious abnormal density shadows seen in the parenchyma.
The renal pelvis, calyces, and ureters are not widened, and FDG uptake is not significantly abnormal.
Bilateral adrenal gland imaging shows no obvious abnormalities.
The stomach is poorly filled, with no obvious thickening of the stomach wall, and FDG uptake is not significantly abnormal.
The intestines are poorly filled, with no obvious space-occupying lesions, but some sections show continuous FDG uptake, SUVmax=4.9.
The uterus is normal in shape and size, with no abnormal density shadows, and FDG uptake is not abnormal.
No obvious abnormalities are seen in the bilateral adnexa.
The bladder is poorly filled, with no obvious positive stones.
No enlarged lymph nodes are seen in the abdomen or pelvis.
No obvious fluid accumulation is seen in the abdominal or pelvic cavities.
The spinal alignment is normal, with some vertebral body margin osteophytes and L4/5 intervertebral disc bulging.
Patchy FDG uptake was observed in the left shoulder periarticular region, with SUVmax = 2.1.
No abnormalities were found in systemic bone marrow FDG metabolism.

Impression

  1. a. Mixed ground-glass nodules in the posterior segment of the right upper lobe, with slightly elevated FDG metabolism, suggestive of lung cancer; please correlate with clinicopathology. b. Chronic inflammatory micronodules (solid) in the right lower lobe; follow-up CT is recommended. A few post-inflammatory lesions in both lungs. Tracheal diverticulum. Partial arteriosclerosis.

  2. No definite space-occupying lesion in the left cerebellopontine angle region; FDG metabolism normal; comprehensive analysis with enhanced MRI is recommended. Deep lacunar ischemic lesions in the brain.

  3. Chronic inflammatory changes or physiological uptake in some intestinal segments; follow-up endoscopically is recommended.

  4. Degenerative changes in the spine; L4/5 intervertebral disc bulge. Left shoulder periarthritis.

This case is from PETWB-REP, a curated dataset of whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT scans and corresponding radiology reports from 490 patients with a broad spectrum of malignancies. The data were retrospectively collected from patients who underwent clinically indicated whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT scans at the Shanghai Universal Medical Imaging Diagnostic Center between 2021 and 2024.
