Whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT scan in a patient with Renal Cancer taken from the PETWB-REP dataset. The following English report (translated from original Chinese) is taken verbatim from the public dataset and has not been modified or otherwise checked for accuracy (see the end for citation).
Findings
After fasting and intravenous injection of 18F-FDG, a whole-body PET/CT scan was performed.
The whole-body scan showed: Normal brain morphology and structure; no abnormal density shadows were seen in the brain parenchyma; no significant abnormalities were observed in FDG uptake.
No widening was observed in the ventricles, sulci, fissures, or cisterns; the ventricles were symmetrical, and there was no midline shift.
The eyeballs were symmetrical and showed no significant abnormalities.
No thickening was observed in the paranasal sinus mucosa; the sinus walls were intact.
No thickening was observed in the nasopharyngeal wall; no abnormalities were observed in FDG uptake; the pharyngeal recesses were symmetrical; there was no narrowing of the Eustachian tube openings; the infratemporal and pterygopalatine fossae were structurally normal; the parapharyngeal spaces were clear bilaterally; and FDG uptake was normal.
The palatine tonsils showed physiological uptake bilaterally.
The laryngopharynx was normal in morphology and structure.
No abnormal density shadows were observed in the bilateral parotid and submandibular glands.
The thyroid gland was normal in morphology and size, with slightly uneven density; FDG uptake was normal.
Several small lymph nodes were observed in the bilateral deep cervical spaces and submandibular region; FDG metabolism was normal.
Solid nodules with clear borders, approximately 0.3 cm in long diameter, were observed in the posterior segment of the left upper lobe and the apical segment of the right upper lobe.
FDG uptake was normal.
No pleural thickening was observed bilaterally, and there was no pleural effusion or pneumothorax.
A round soft tissue shadow, approximately 1.2 cm in diameter, was seen in the anterior mediastinum, with absent FDG metabolism.
Calcification was observed in some arterial walls.
The cardiac silhouette was normal.
The esophagus was not dilated, and the wall was not significantly thickened or swollen; FDG uptake was not increased.
The liver was normal in size, and the hepatic fissure was not widened.
A soft tissue protrusion, approximately 3.0*2.2 cm in size, with slightly lower density, was seen in the right anterior lobe of the liver on plain CT scan; FDG uptake was at background levels.
The main portal vein was not significantly widened, and no dilation was observed in the intrahepatic or extrahepatic bile ducts.
The gallbladder was normal in shape and size, and the gallbladder wall was not thickened; local FDG uptake was normal.
The pancreas is normal in shape, with no obvious abnormal density shadows in the parenchyma, no widening of the main pancreatic duct, and no obvious abnormalities in FDG uptake.
The spleen is normal in shape, size, density, and FDG uptake.
Both kidneys are normal in size.
A slightly low-density soft tissue shadow protruding from the renal border is seen in the left kidney, measuring approximately 3.9*2.8cm, with background FDG uptake.
A low-density lesion approximately 0.9cm in diameter is seen in the right kidney, with clear borders and absent FDG uptake.
A punctate dense shadow is seen in the left renal pelvis.
No widening of the renal pelvis, calyces, or ureter is seen, and no obvious abnormalities in FDG uptake are observed.
Bilateral adrenal gland contrast is normal.
The stomach is poorly filled, with no obvious thickening of the gastric wall, and no obvious abnormalities in FDG uptake.
The intestines are poorly filled, with no obvious thickening or mass in the intestinal wall, and FDG uptake is physiological.
The prostate is full in shape and homogeneous in density, with no abnormally increased FDG uptake.
The bladder is generally full, with no obvious positive stones seen within.
No enlarged lymph nodes were observed in the abdominal cavity, pelvic cavity, or retroperitoneal region.
No significant fluid accumulation was observed in the abdominal or pelvic cavities.
The spinal alignment was normal, with calcification of the nuchal ligament.
Wedge-shaped deformity was observed in the L2 vertebral body.
Osteophyte formation was present at the marginal points of some vertebral bodies, and disc bulging was observed at L3/4, L4/5, and L5/S1.
No abnormal FDG metabolism was observed in the entire skeletal system.
Impression
a. A slightly low-density soft tissue lesion in the left kidney, with background uptake on FDG, suggestive of a renal space-occupying lesion, possibly malignant. Please confirm with contrast-enhanced MRI and clinicopathological examination. Small renal stone in the left kidney. Cyst in the right kidney. b. A soft tissue lesion in the right anterior lobe of the liver, with background uptake on FDG, highly suggestive of a neoplastic lesion.
Chronic inflammatory nodules in the posterior segment of the left upper lobe and the apical segment of the right upper lobe. Please confirm with CT follow-up.
Soft tissue nodules in the anterior mediastinum, with absent FDG metabolism, suggestive of a thymic cyst or thymoma. Please confirm with CT follow-up.
Calcification of some arterial walls.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Degenerative changes in the spine. Wedge-shaped L2 vertebral body. Intervertebral disc bulging at L3/4, L4/5, and L5/S1.
No obvious abnormalities were found on cranial scintigraphy.
This case is from PETWB-REP, a curated dataset of whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT scans and corresponding radiology reports from 490 patients with a broad spectrum of malignancies. The data were retrospectively collected from patients who underwent clinically indicated whole-body 18F-FDG PET/CT scans at the Shanghai Universal Medical Imaging Diagnostic Center between 2021 and 2024.
